How Can I Help?
Volunteer
Volunteers save the lives of hundreds of wild animals each year!
The wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic depends on it's dedicated
volunteers. We could not exist without our volunteers who assist us
with our two shifts each day, seven days a week. We are always in
need of dedicated individuals who would like to learn more about our
native Missouri wildlife.
A great volunteer has a sincere desire to make a difference in the
lives of animals. It is especially rewarding to care for the
animals in our facility and each volunteer position entails plenty of
hard work and requires a serious commitment.
Spring and Summer are our busiest times. Mammals
are raising their young, and with so much human development around,
many of these babies get into trouble or lose their mothers.
Fall and winter are times for wildlife rescue and release and taking
care of more injured adults. It is also a time to get things ready
for next Spring.
The clinic's volunteers help the native wildlife in many ways:
Animal Care Assistants
Volunteers who work directly with the animals make a commitment to a
minimum of one four hour shift each week.
This job can be intense and physically demanding, but it offers the
most direct animal contact and the opportunity to learn a
variety of animal care skills.
Duties include:
Feeding baby and adult animals
Monitoring medical conditions
Cleaning Cages
Setting up cages
Laundry
Cleaning the overall facility (sweeping, mopping & washing dishes)
Admitting new arrivals
Answering the phone and helping the caller determine what to do.
Training: Volunteer orientation
and on the job training.
Maintenance and General
Building Repairs
We are also always in need of a helping hand to maintain our new
building such as electrical work, siding, plumbing, carpentry and
all the fine trades.
Building Cages
Time is a very precious item and any time spent assisting our daily
volunteer staff assemble and create cages for our animals is greatly
appreciated.
Education
We present educational programs for children and adults. If
you like to teach, here is your opportunity.
